Jaguar X-TYPE S AUTO For Sale

seven years and for the first two or three years it was kept in dry storage but I lost the storage when I moved house and it has since been stored outside with a cover most of the time and now to build a new garage I need to raise funds. First the good points about the car, the car does drive although the brakes stick. It shows good oil pressure, the original radio still works, it doesn`t smoke or rattle at all and sounds quite sweet and there is a Heritage Certificate with a big folder full of information and photographs from when the car would be shown at events, etc. confirming its history plus it does have an interesting Registration Number (if you are a Lord of the Rings fan) and it does have a rare factory fitted option of a metal panel sunroof. Now the not so good bits, ideally it would need re-shelling or a lot of work putting into making the shell useable. There is severe rust in the floor pans (both sides), sills (both sides), rear wheel arches (both sides), windscreen wiper panel (skuttle top). Having said all that, it would be up to you if you wanted to restore to retain originality or whether it would be easier to find another shell from a smaller engine XJC. There was one for sale last year on e-bay and it had had £1,500 spent in panels and welding and it had a factory fitted steel panel sunroof and it only went for £700 so think of all the work that would have saved, still it would be up to the new owner to decide. It could also do with re-trimming with a new interior as the leather has dried out somewhat and the roof lining and other trim has perished a bit.These cars are now starting to fetch five figure sums when in very good condition and being a rare primrose yellow, black leather sunroof model V12 this is better than money in the Bank. Anyway, there you have it. To make it clear, no, you will not be driving home in it - it must be trailered away (I have to say as there will always be one who asks). I do have another coupe shell with very good quarters and doors which I had earmarked for this car and I could perhaps be persuaded to let that go or maybe list for sale, we will see how it goes.I didn`t really want to sell the car but if it went to a good home then it is better than it just sitting around here. alloy wheels. The body is in good condition with no rust, blistering, or dents just some very minor stone chips and marks etc, which is normal for a car of this age. The interior is good other than some cracking of the leather on the drivers bolster but no rips or tears the front seats have grained which I think looks more classic but again I have the dye for the interior, the rear seats are as new, the steering wheel has signs of wear on the leather see photo, I have the dye for this but have not got round to do it. The car has power seats, hood, windows, 6cd changer in the boot, climate control and all the usual extras and they all work fine, he only main fault is there is three bars on the rear heated window that does not work. Mechanically this car is good and drives very well and extremely fast but I can still get nearly 30 mpg there is a service history but and when I brought it last year it had been serviced but not by a Jaguar dealer therefore book not stamped, I had the car fully checked before a trip to France over Christmas, and it completed the 1000 mile trip without missing a beat and it was an absolute dream to drive. Some recent work done both front wheels redressed and sprayed two new front tyres, I have fitted an Adamesh stainless steel exhaust system. what it is noises in fact its like driving a new car. this jag has no rust, it does have some dings on body work and a slight scuff on wing, also the front spoiler has some flaking and scratches underneath the eye line so unless your on the floor its hard to spot. a perfect example. Presented in virtually unmarked Signal Red with full Black hide interior, our car has enjoyed a cherished life covering just 2,000 miles in the past 10 years. Seen as a direct replacement for the iconic E-Type, the XJ-S went into production in September 1975 sporting a 5.3 litre V12 engine and the choice of manual or automatic transmission. Timing was not good for Jaguar with a world-wide oil crisis hitting sales of all larger engined cars and with indifferent comments circulating over the styling of the new car (in particular the rear buttresses), the company must have wondered whether they had a lemon on their hands. But after a subsequent 21-year production run, the car has now become a modern icon and with continuous development and clever marketing, now represents one of the bargains from the era of excess. This development included a new High Efficiency V12 engine in 1981 producing more power (around 290bhp) with better fuel economy, a cabriolet from 1985 and a full convertible from 1988 onwards. The 1990`s saw further cosmetic and mechanical improvements with the tried and tested AJ6 4.0 litre engine appearing in the Facelift model of late 1991 and a 6.0 litre V12 topping the line until production ceased in 1996. Television appearances in “The Saint” and the “New Avengers” helped to give the car a cool profile and when a V12 Coupe won the original “Cannonball Run” in 1979 (New York to Los Angeles in just over 32 hours) it helped to seal the future of this high-performance GT. Our car was first registered in September 1989, supplied new to a businessman in Bilston, West Midlands. Evidently a daily driver, the car covered between 6-8000 miles a year with regular servicing at Northfield Garage in Birmingham. By the late 1990`s, it had been sold to a gentleman in Gloucestershire whereupon service work was undertaken by local Jaguar dealers, H.A. Fox of Cheltenham. Indeed, in March 1999 at 50,655 miles, the car benefitted from a major service at this dealership with work to include replacement camshaft covers, replacement of all 12 injectors and spark plugs, new crank shaft seals and drive belts, new front brakes (discs and pads), replacement window regulator (off-side), new water pump and all ancillaries. Over the past 13 years, the car has covered just 9,000 miles with 2 further long term keepers with further documented works to include a new air-conditioning pump, new chrome trims and some minor paint-work. The last full service was undertaken at 59,141 miles and unsurprisingly, the car is running beautifully and drives like a dream. It comes with the original dealer pack including Handbook, stamped-up Service Book, Warranty Guide, Radio Guide, many sundry bills and old MOT Certificates going back to 1996. The current MOT runs to August 2012. Having driven many V12`s over the years, I can honestly say that this is the best I have ever sat in, driven and experienced in every department! The radio screen is blank. The key remote needs new batteries and for some reason wont open the boot. and a year’s tax. I am running this for myself and should have the logbook back in my name by the sale date. I bought this car with minor front damage, only the bonnet, N/S wing, headlights and grill have been replaced and i have pictures to show how light this damage was. It is now for sale as my range rover needs a new engine and its going to be expensive! As you can see from the pictures it’s very tidy showing only 61459 miles on the clock. There is a very minor car park mark on the driver’s door but isn’t very noticeable. The 3.2litre engine starts on the button sounds sweet and drives amazing. Very clean leather inside and so many toys i wouldn’t know what else you would need but i will try and list them. Auto headlights, come on when it gets dark. Auto wipers, come on when it senses rain in the screen. Heated seats with three memory positions for different drivers. Electric seat adjustment, electric steering height and rake adjustment. Climate control. Heated front and rear screens. It has the phone kit fitted but i don’t have the handset. Reverse parking sensors, auto dimming rear view mirror, navigation system and multi disc CD player. Also has cruise control, traction control and sports mode, electric mirrors with auto fold. Comes with two grills, one chrome and one colour coded to the car so the choice is yours (i think colour coded looks more modern), I’m sure to have missed something, oh yes it also has multi function steering wheel auto locking doors and valet mode, remote locking and lights (the lock button on the remote is temperamental as it needs a new rubber but works ok) and front cup holders. I have two keys the hand books and a full Jag service history to go with the car, this is truly a stunning vehicle and an amazing drive. TO COME AND LOOK!!Here we have my Jaguar XJ6 Sovereign Series III 4.2 litre straight-six. I am only selling this car due to loss of garage space as it was going to be fully restored.This car is in very presentable, useable condition as you can see from the photos - it has an MOT for nearly a year and tax until the end of August 2012.It is finished in lovely sage green metallic with contrasting tan leather interior. It has the original pepperpot alloys including the spare.She drives like a Jag should - soft and comfortable - amazing for a 30 year old car. Still looks great - Pininfarina made a good job of the Series III.The interior is a lovely place to be and is all original - the dash has some cracking to the veneer and a small bit missing near the radio but nothing too bad - all the leather is in great condition and the seats are amazingly comfortable. All gauges work as they should and the original upgraded radio-cassette (Clarion) is in situ.This car has had the air conditioning system upgraded to the new gas - the system works perfectly and blows nice and cold - remarkable for an old Jag! It also has an electric sun-roof in perfect working condition.Most of the electrics work, all four windows, central locking, electric sunroof, mirrors (although can sometimes be a little tempremental), heating system - the aerial is stuck in the `up` position. Sometimes the speedo will stop working, then will start again...The bodywork is ok but if you want it to be perfect you will need to do some work - there is bubbling round both front and rear screen (front is worst - back is not that bad). The doors have bits and pieces particularly the n/s front - this would ideally require a skin at some point in the future. The wings are generally solid but the corners could do with tidying. There are various small scratches and blemishes on the car but nothing that you would not expect for a car from 1984 - it is a solid car. As I mentioned you can use this car as it is as it looks good and always gets admiring glances - and be prepared to talk to strangers in petrol stations who always seem to want to chat...let`s be fair you don`t see that many Series III Jags about anymore!There is no service history with the car (It didn`t come with it) but I do have MOT`s going back to the late 1980`s and the Jaguar Wallet with manual etc etc. Insurance costs £100 a year on limited mileage. The original engine has been replaced at some point as I have had the current one checked and I have been advised that it is the 4.2 unit from a later Series III car - it runs very well.To sum up - a really nice genuine Jaguar Series III in a lovely colour combination - could do with some general tidying but nothing urgent. due to the present climate i cannot justify another car ! The car drives like a dream with no knocks or rattles, it handles very well for such a big car . It looks eye catching in the metallic turquoise with black detailing. The interior is pale cream leather in very good condition( small amount of wear on drivers bolster) and dark walnut trim, it is a nice place to be and smells very plush. Usual jaguar refinements . Suprisingly good on fuel (as only a baby 3.2) for such a big car , seen 28mpg on the fuel computer. It comes with: 11 months MOT ( testers comments were surprised how solid the car is , they are normally rusty underneath apparently!) but no tax . Full service history with stamped book. All old MOT,s and some service reciepts. All Jaguar manuals and service books are present as are 2 spare keys( one green master) and a spare remote for central locking and alarm. Top speed electronically limited to 155mph. But this car is equally at home being the sophisticated cruise machine, it is very very quiet and a real smooth ride thanks to the air suspension. ABS and ESP (stability control) functions along with a sport button for the transmission enable you to select which mode you wish to drive. Mileage is admittedly on the high side at 136,800 miles, but most of this has been conducted on the motorway. The story I was told is that the first owner was a stock broker in London who lived in Cardiff. The car spent its time back and forth along the M4. I have many reciepts and old MOT certificates and was able to put together a graph of its mileage accumulation rate (see last photo). Sad I know, but it was to prove the point. As you can see the first 81,000 miles were covered in just 21 months of use! The remaining mileage was at a pretty steady 9,000 miles / year, which is actually under-average mileage rate. Its not mileage which is harmful to a cars durability, its the way in which those miles are accumulated. And motorways are the least stressful on a cars components (engine fully warm, steady speed, light load, no heavy side loads on the tyres / hubs, no big inputs into the suspension). This is also reflected in the reciepts I have for work done, it is mostly tyres and brakes. The engine is the 4.2 litre supercharged V8. It is NOT the engine which had the Nickasil bore issues or the timing chain tensioner issues. It is smooth, refined and has that great V8 burble when you squeeze the pedal. Transmission is the 6 speed ZF unit which makes the pedal feel very `connected` to the car, none of the elastic band type feeling you get with the older 5 speed trans. Kickdown and sport work great. There is NO oscillation in engine speed when at a steady road speed (which would indicate a torque convertor problem). The car has full service history up to 122,000 miles (mostly from Jag Main Dealers). So effectively it has missed the last service point. I changed the engine oil at 135,500 miles and put Mobil 1 5W-30 into it. The oil which came out was not full of crud or anything like that. The filter was `clean` (no visible metallic particles). When you look into the oil filler on the valve cover there are no signs of coking or sludge accumulation. I changed the air filter at the same time. Tyres are in good condition with plenty of meat left on them. I have had the car for almost 12 months. I am only selling because my wife wants to get a caravan so we need a tow car and we cant have both that, a caravan and the Jag... I spent a lot of time finding this car as I planned on keeping it much longer than I have. I have done less than 2000 miles since I bought it, mostly at weekends and it has not been thrashed. The interior is in immaculate condition, no rips or scuffs to the seats. Only one small area of imperfection on the drivers door card (see below). OK, so there must be some bad points? Well, only a few actually and Im being picky here, because thats what Im like:*Both rear wings have a small dent close to the rear light clusters. Paint is not cracked at all and you only notice it if the light catches it - see picture of OSR dent (circled). NSR dent is even smaller.*Near side rear wheel arch has small scratch / dent - looks like someone caught it with a shopping trolley...*Some minor scuffs to the front wheel rims. These have been repaired to a degree, but theyre not absolutely perfect (a good wheel man could sort them no problem).*The parking sensors have a fault (3 sec continuous beep when you first select a gear to indicate they are not functioning). I have done the listening test and noted that 2 were not `ticking` which indicates a duff sensor. These are about 20 quid each but would take a couple of hours to fit, so I havent done anything about it as I dont have a lot of spare time.*The supercharger belt squeaks slightly when cold. This is a very common fault on these cars and was fixed by revising the belt at 2007 MY. There is a retrofit kit to solve it on these cars - I have that kit (belt, tensioner, idler and brackets), from the Jag dealer, but again havent had time to fit it. This cost nearly £200 and will come with the car.*The offside, outside headlamp washer jet is missing (scrapyard to get a replacement).*Some minor stone chips to the front end.*As mentioned above, the drivers door card has some minor imperfections - looks like a lady with french nails has been using the car as the leather is slightly scuffed around the door grab handle, but its hardly noticable (see pic in extras at bottom).*These cars have a reputation for corrosion on the aluminium body. Some people are obsessed with it... But for no good reason. This car has two small areas, classic places. Front edge of the boot and bottom front corner of door (rear passenger side). Aluminium corrosion isnt like steel corrosion - it wont spread indefinately and `eat` the car! It is present because the anti-corrosion protection was not applied perfectly. It only spreads to the point where the protection is good again - and I guarantee that the couple of spots on this car have not got any worse since I have had it. See photo of the boot edge in the main pics. Pic of rear door is in the extra pics at the bottom. AS YOU CAN SEE AREA IS VERY SMALL AND NO WORSE NOW THAN WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR. So, not many faults and a lot right about the car. Mileage shouldnt be a worry as pointed out. Road tax is £270 year and insurance is good if you go to a specialist type of broker (these are classed as future classic or modern classic cars). I use Footman James who were very helpful. Fuel economy isnt as bad as you might imagine. Our weekend use nets around 25MPG (mostly town with a bit of motorway). On a steady run at 70mph it will return 32MPG. As I said I need to sell the car so we can get a caravan. It will break my heart but thats what wives do... :) So the price is £7295 or a close offer. For the right deal I will also get a fresh MOT on the car. I will pass on all the reciepts etc that I have plus copies of workshop manuals that I have acquired. There are two genuine Jaguar keys with the car and the original handbook and service book. Any trial welcome but please no tyre kickers.
