1966 JAGUAR GREY
.
This JAGUAR MK2 is my pride and joy. It turns heads where ever it goes. I have driven this Jaguar all over the UK and France it runs like a dream. Probably...>
one of the best examples of a Mark 2 , 2.4 in the country. Unfortunately I have to sell this lovely classic as I have moved house and no longer have a garage to house it. I can`t bear the thought of this lovely car standing outside in the UK winter. I have been using this car for weddings as I have a chauffeur business and have nothing but good comments from everyone that has been driven in the car. The car comes with a lot of history from when it was first registered in 1966. There are details of the car being shipped to the US and back again to the UK, receipts and photos of the restoration from the 1990s to 2009. This includes photos of the car in a barn covered with rust and hay, certainly doesn`t look like the car it is today! Over £40,000 has been spend to make sure this car is mechanically sound, reliable and looks wonderful. I have been told by classic car magazine experts that this car is GRADE A - just a little off concourse condition. All the interior has been professionally refurbished in red leather, which sets off the dark blue exterior to a tee. The instrument panel is original and all working. A new CD/radio was fitted in 2008. Mileage: 72,000 from new and I believe this mileage to be true. Other items to note: Sold with a full year`s MOT: Crome wire wheels : Overdrive working faultlessly The car is DARK BLUE in colour. The original colour was grey and this is still on the registration document. I am in the process of getting this corrected. Viewing strongly recommended. This car is not to be missed if you are looking for a true classic which you will love to drive and everyone else will admire. Any inspection welcome. Payment: Cash or Bankers draft on collection. Most major credit cards taken. Any questions, phone Phil on 07802 753665 This is the last time this car will be up for auction on eBay. Just so everyone knows this car has had a ground up nut and bolt restoration. Completely stripped to the chassis and professionally resprayed inside and out. Photos to prove all stages of work carried out. Believe me when I say, you will not find a better 2.4 MK2 on the market today, for this money. This is a bargain !!! X

Other vehicles from this dealer | About Us The Real Car Company was established in 1987 by Ray Arnold & Ian Johnstone. It was a hobby that `Got out of hand`. Our interest in cars of the type that we now sell goes back to our childhoods, and ownership back to the 1970`s. Gradually more cars started passing through our hands, and by 1986 we had decided to make a full time occupation of buying and selling the cars that we love. We started with a single car (all we could afford) which we sold quickly, and before we knew it we had 4 or 5 on our hands! This was alongside another business that we were involved in at the time. In the Spring of 1988 we gave up the other business, (exhaust systems), rented part of the premises that we still operate from now, and went full time.We had a good start in the boom years of the late eighties, which set us up well enough for us to ride the storm of recession in the years that followed. As the years went on the number of cars going through our hands increased gradually, we built up a workforce, and now in 2009 we carry a stock of around 40 to 50 vehicles and there are ten of us here. In 1999 we were awarded `International Classic Car Dealer of the Year` by Classic Cars Magazine. The market for `our` kind of cars is nicely stable, generally prices are creeping upwards all the time, and we feel that investing in a car - or cars - of the type that we sell is generally a great place to put your money. Don`t do it just for investment, but you can get a great deal of pleasure from these vehicles, prices are - in our opinion - unlikely to drop, and you can`t drive a share certificate! Some prices in the last three or four years have moved up considerably, and these cases have shown a tremendous return on investment. Over the last fifteen years or so we have brought home several hundred cars from the USA, and we are always looking for more. If you know of a Rolls-Royce or Bentley anywhere in the world, in absolutely any condition, please let us know. Distance no object, commissions happily paid. We always particularly enjoy the `barn finds`. Description A sound but somewhat scruffy example, with poor paintwork, but sound underside. The interior is an updated one, perhaps from an XJ6, which fits well, and has comfortable seating. The car was in use until a year or so ago, and now needs some re-commissioning, but should be easy to return to the road to become a ‘use & improve’ project. Runs well, and priced sensibly for a quick sale. Chassis No. 119380DN. Reg No. GKC 230D. £6,500 Interested? These retrospectively became known as the Jaguar Mark 1 following the release of the Mark 2 in 1959. (Eric Dymock, The Jaguar File, 3rd edition, 2004, Dove Publishing.) Contents 1 History 2 Production 3 Performance 4 Motorsport 5 Influence on modern Jaguars 6 Portrayal in media 7 Notes 8 References 9 External links [edit] History Adhering to Sir William Lyons' maxim of "grace, pace and space", the Mark 2 was a beautiful, fast and capable saloon. It came with a 120 bhp 2.4 L, 210 bhp 3.4 L or 220 bhp 3.8 L Jaguar XK6 engine.[2] The 3.8 is similar to the unit used in the 3.8 E-Type (XKE), having the same block, crank, connecting rods and pistons but different inlet manifold and carburetion (two SUs versus three on the E-Type in Europe) and therefore 30 bhp less. The head of the six cylinder engine in the Mark 2 had curved ports compared to the straight ports of the E-Type configuration. For markets other than the US the 3.4 was fitted with twin SU carburettors and the 2.4 with twin Solexes, but three Solexes were used in US spec 3.4s and 3.8s in order to meet SMOG emissions legislation. This reduced power output over the equivalent SU carburetted examples. The Daimler 2.5 litre engine was fitted to the Daimler 250 derivative of the Mark 2 (In European markets known as the Daimler 2.5-V8 then Daimler V8-250), having first been used in the Daimler SP250 sports car (the SP250 was originally known as the Daimler Dart but "Dart" was a trademark of Dodge and had to be dropped by Daimler under threat of legal action.) The aluminium alloy Daimler engine was lighter than the cast iron block Jaguar sixes, therefore reducing the mass over the front wheels and hence reducing understeer compared to the XK-powered versions under hard cornering. These models were recognisable by the characteristic Daimler wavy fluting incorporated in the chrome grille instead of the Jaguar badge and figurine. The Mark 2 was discontinued in September 1967 and replaced by the 240 and 340, so named to distinguish them from the old 2.4 and 3.4 which, as noted above, became known as the Mark 1 following the introduction of the Mark 2 in 1959. The Jaguar 240 and 340 were interim models to fill the gap until the introduction of the XJ6 in September 1968. The 340 was discontinued immediately but the 240 continued as a budget priced model until April 1969; its price of £1364 was only £20 more than the first 2.4 in 1956. (Eric Dymock, The Jaguar File, 3rd edition, 2004, Dove Publishing.) The economies of the new 240 and 340 models came at a cost - the leather upholstery was replaced by 'Ambla' leather-like material and slimmer, more economical front and rear bumpers were introduced. Other changes included the replacement of the front fog lamps with circular vents and optional fog lamps for the UK market. The sales price was reduced to compete with the Rover 2000 TC.[3] The 240's performance was improved over the old 2.4 model by upgrading the 2.4's cylinder head and twin Solex carburettors to the straight port 'E-Type' head and twin SU carburettors. For the first time the 2.4 litre model could exceed 100 mph (Eric Dymock, The Jaguar File, 3rd edition, 2004, Dove Publishing.) [4] resulting in a slight sales resurgence. [edit] Production Mark 2, 1959 to 1967 83,976 Mark 2s were built, split as follows:[2] 2.4 - 25,173 3.4 - 28,666 3.8 - 30,141 240 and 340 series, 1967 to 1969 total production 7,246 as follows:[2] 240 - 4,446 340 - 2,788 380 - 12 (not a standard production option) Jaguar replaced the 240 and 340 with the XJ6 in September 1968. [edit] Performance A 3.4 litre car with automatic transmission tested by The Motor magazine in 1961 had a top speed of 119.9 mph (193.0 km/h) and could accelerate from 0-60 mph (97 km/h) in 11.9 seconds. A touring fuel consumption of 19.0 miles per imperial gallon (14.9 L/100 km; 15.8 mpg-US) was recorded. The test car cost £1951 including taxes of £614.[1] A 3.8 litre car with the 220 bhp engine was capable of accelerating from 0-60 mph (97 km/h) in 8.5 seconds and could reach a top speed of 125 mph (201 km/h).[5][6][7] [edit] Motorsport The Mark 2 was raced successfully in the European Touring Car Championship. [edit] Influence on modern Jaguars The Mark 2's body lines, derived from the Mark 1, and overall layout proved sufficiently popular over time to provide an inspiration for both the Jaguar S-Type introduced in 1999 and the smaller X-Type debuted in 2001. [edit] Portrayal in media Jaguar Mark 2 The Mark 2 gained a reputation as a capable car among criminals and law enforcement alike; the 3.8 Litre model being particularly fast with its 220 bhp (164 kW) engine driving the car from 0-60 mph (97 km/h) in 8.5 seconds and to a top speed of 125 mph (201 km/h) with enough room for five adults.[5][6][7] Popular as getaway cars, they were also employed by the Police to patrol British motorways. The Mark 2 is also well known as the car driven by fictional TV detective Inspector Morse played by John Thaw, although Morse's car was the least desirable version (with its 2.4 L engine, steel wheels and everflex roof). It was often pushed into scenes with engine noises dubbed onto the soundtrack in post-production. In November 2005, the car used in the television series sold for more than GBP 100,000 following a total ground-up rebuild (prior to this, in its recommissioned state in 2002 after coming out of storage, it had made GBP 53,000 at auction - some GBP 45,000 more than an equivalent without the history).[8] In the original novels by Colin Dexter, Morse had driven a Lancia but Thaw insisted on his character driving a British car in the television series. John Thaw stated in one interview that the Jaguar was "an absolute beggar to drive ". [edit] Notes ^ a b "The Jaguar 3.4 litre Mark 2". The Motor. 16 August 1961.  ^ a b c Robson, Graham (2006). But for this latest offering Jaguar designed a modern and streamlined looking body, featuring fully integrated headlights and mudguards along with an increased rear overhang which gave the car enhanced presence. As on the Mark V, the upper part of the rear wheels was covered by the body work (properly called spats, and removable for flat tyre wheel changes). In place of its predecessor's flat windscreen, the Mark VII design included a two piece front screen, adumbrating the gently curved one piece screen that would become available with the Jaguar Mark VIII. The predecessor model had been powered by an engine of prewar design, originally developed by the Standard Motor Company. The Mark VII featured the remarkable newly developed XK engine first seen in in production form in the 1948 XK120 Jaguar XK.[4] The 3442 cc straight six engine provided the same 160 bhp (119.3 kW) power output in this application as in the Mark VII's sports car contemporary. Despite its size, a top speed in excess of 100 mph (160 km/h) was claimed for the Mark VII. The Jaguar Mark VII's arrival coincided with some relaxation of the desperate economic situation that pervaded Britain after the war. Already in 1951 the enthusiastic reception of the Mark VII in the UK and US markets was given by the company as the reason for their relocation to larger premises, in a plant built for wartime production as a so called "shadow factory" and now available for immediate use.[4] By the time of the Mark VII's 1954 upgrade, 20,908 had been produced.[1] A car tested by the British magazine The Motor in 1952 had a top speed of 101 mph (163 km/h) and could accelerate from 0-60 mph (97 km/h) in 13.7 seconds. A fuel consumption of 17.6 miles per imperial gallon (16.1 L/100 km; 14.7 mpg-US) was recorded. The test car cost £1693 including taxes. [3] [edit] Jaguar Mk VII M 1954 - 1956 British manufacturers in the 1950s generally launched new models at the London Motor Show which took place in October: at the 1954 motor show Jaguar presented the Mark VII M. The engine was of the same size and had the same 8:1 compression ratio, but now the power output was 190 bhp (141.7 kW) permitting a claimed top speed of 104 mph (167 km/h). The standard transmission remained a four speed manual gear box: additionally the three speed Borg Warner automatic, introduced in 1953 but hitherto available only on exported cars, became an option for British buyers. The Mark VII M could be distinguished from its predecessor most easily by the 'horn grills' beneath the headlights. These replaced the formerly integrated auxiliary lamps which were now perched on the bumpers slightly further from the centre of the car than hitherto.[5] The newer model also had "wrap-around" bumpers that wrapped a little further along the sides of the car.[5] Early in 1956 a Mark VII won the Monte Carlo rally[6]. During the next few years big Jaguar sedans would play a leading part in British saloon car racing. One year after presenting the Mark VII M, Jaguar introduced their elegant smaller 2.4-litre saloon. In 1956 the Suez Crisis broke. Talk in Britain was of a return to fuel rationing: bubble cars appeared on the streets. For Jaguar the focus switched towards the middle weight saloons, and neither the Mark VII M nor any of its increasingly powerful but thirsty direct successors would match the production volumes of the original Jaguar Mark VII. Nevertheless, before giving way to the Mark VIII, the Mark VII M notched up 10,061 sales during its two year production run.[1] [edit] No Jaguar Mk VI The Jaguar Mark VII had replaced the Jaguar Mark V. As there was a Bentley Mark VI already on the market, Jaguar decided to call the next model Mark VII. A high powered version of the Jaguar Mark V had been designated the Jaguar Mark VI, but it is thought that only two of these were built[2]. The Mk II was heavily based on its predecessor but had a much lighter and more modern appearance. This was mainly due to a much larger glass area achieved by the use of deeper windows and slimmer window frames that were no longer part of the door mouldings. There were also many detail trim changes, and whilst the interior had undergone a complete redesign, it remained very luxurious with wood veneer and leather in abundance. Mechanically the rear track had been widened and improvements made to the suspension geometry. The 2.4 & 3.4 litre engines were carried forward from the Mk I but had gained slightly more power, and a third engine - the 3.8 litre, was now available. As with the larger engined version of the MK I saloon, the 3.8 litre Mk II had outstanding performance and was for a long time the fastest production saloon car in the world. The Mk II Jaguar was discontinued in 1967 with the introduction of the almost identical 240 & 340 saloon. This time though, there was not to be a 3.8 version, although this engine (along with the 3.4) was still being used in the slightly larger Jaguar S-Type, which featured independent rear suspension.
