Description Jaguar MKII 3.4 Saloon Undoubtedly one of the greatest saloon cars of all time, the Jaguar MkII was launched to huge acclaim in 1959. The top-of-the-range 3.8-litre model had stunning performance from its 220bhp straight-six engine and could embarrass most sportscars of the day, leaving them trailing in its 125mph wake. Keeping everything under control were servo-assisted disc brakes all round, coil-and-wishbone independent front suspension and a leaf-sprung Salisbury rear axle with optional limited slip diff. Inside was beautifully trimmed in walnut and leather in the finest Jaguar tradition. A huge success both on road and track, the MKII was quick to dominate contemporary saloon car racing in the hands of drivers like Stirling Moss and Roy Salvadori. No wonder it also established itself as the ultimate get-away car. With room for four burly gangsters and a big stack of loot, no sixties’ bank job was complete without a MkII fishtailing its way from the scene of the crime – often hotly pursued by another one that the cops had been forced to buy to keep up!In the middle of the range was the 3.4-litre which featured the superb twin-cam 3,442cc XK engine, as used in the previous 3.4 Saloon, now retrospectively referred to as the MkI. The 3.4-litre was a particularly sweet running engine with excellent performance that was nearly a match for the 3.8 (210bhp and 120mph top speed). Production of the MkII 3.4 ended in 1967, although a cheaper version, the 340, continued to sell until 1969.According to its accompanying Heritage Certificate, this particular Sherwood Green 3.4-litre was originally supplied by AJ Beal of Exeter to first owner Mr Lupp of Minehead, Somerset, in April 1963. According to the V5C it has had just five keepers in all, the third and fourth being a Bristol-based father and son who owned it from 1985 until July 2009. The bodywork has clearly been expertly restored and repainted at some time in the not-too-distant past and it remains in superb condition with excellent panel gaps all round, sparkling chrome and beautiful paintwork. The Suede Green interior totally original and has a lovely mellow patina that gives it great character. In 2009 the car received a very substantial mechanical overhaul at various specialists with bills on file for over £13,500. This included a cylinder head overhaul, reconditioned carbs, rebuilt all-synchromesh gearbox and overdrive, Koni shock absorbers, alternator conversion, high-torque starter motor, aluminium radiator, electric fan and many other improvements detailed in the history file. The car drives beautifully and is certainly the closest you will ever get to driving a new MKII. With 12 months MOT when sold and taxed until next September, the car comes with a large amount of history including most old MOTs back to 1996 when the car had covered an indicated 65,496 miles, a total which has now only risen to some 77,600 miles. Altogether an excellent example in a refreshingly subtle hue which draws lots of admiring glances wherever it goes. Other vehicles from this dealer | About Us The Real Car Company was established in 1987 by Ray Arnold & Ian Johnstone. It was a hobby that `Got out of hand`. Our interest in cars of the type that we now sell goes back to our childhoods, and ownership back to the 1970`s. Gradually more cars started passing through our hands, and by 1986 we had decided to make a full time occupation of buying and selling the cars that we love. We started with a single car (all we could afford) which we sold quickly, and before we knew it we had 4 or 5 on our hands! This was alongside another business that we were involved in at the time. In the Spring of 1988 we gave up the other business, (exhaust systems), rented part of the premises that we still operate from now, and went full time.We had a good start in the boom years of the late eighties, which set us up well enough for us to ride the storm of recession in the years that followed. As the years went on the number of cars going through our hands increased gradually, we built up a workforce, and now in 2009 we carry a stock of around 40 to 50 vehicles and there are ten of us here. In 1999 we were awarded `International Classic Car Dealer of the Year` by Classic Cars Magazine. The market for `our` kind of cars is nicely stable, generally prices are creeping upwards all the time, and we feel that investing in a car - or cars - of the type that we sell is generally a great place to put your money. Don`t do it just for investment, but you can get a great deal of pleasure from these vehicles, prices are - in our opinion - unlikely to drop, and you can`t drive a share certificate! Some prices in the last three or four years have moved up considerably, and these cases have shown a tremendous return on investment. Over the last fifteen years or so we have brought home several hundred cars from the USA, and we are always looking for more. If you know of a Rolls-Royce or Bentley anywhere in the world, in absolutely any condition, please let us know. Distance no object, commissions happily paid. We always particularly enjoy the `barn finds`. Description A sound but somewhat scruffy example, with poor paintwork, but sound underside. The interior is an updated one, perhaps from an XJ6, which fits well, and has comfortable seating. The car was in use until a year or so ago, and now needs some re-commissioning, but should be easy to return to the road to become a ‘use & improve’ project. Runs well, and priced sensibly for a quick sale. Chassis No. 119380DN. Reg No. GKC 230D. £6,500 Interested? 1961 JAGUAR MK II 3.8 RED - WIRE WHEELS - MATCHING NUMBERS MK2 - NO RESERVE!!
.
Rock solid California Car, Rebuilt engine, Older Rest.
| 1961 Jaguar Mark II 3.8 with Wire Wheels and Factory Fitted Sunroof. The car was exported to California in 1961, and has the special California options...>
of Automatic Gearbox, Factory Fitted Sunroof and Vinyl seats. The car was re-imported in 1991 and underwent a complete documented restoration at the cost of £11.998 (All receipts, certificates, correspondence and documents included in sale). It was professionally converted from LHD to RHD at the same time. Both Engine and Gearbox was completely rebuilt and documentation by workshop on this is included. Car was finished in 1993 and the Millage in 1993 (mot) was 1998, and it is no 5491, so the car has done less than 3500 miles sine the restoration! It was a nut and bolt restoration. The car has been stored in a Carcoon when not used - so it is a time warp! Still, it is almost 20 years since the restoration, so the car is not perfect. There is some bubbling at the bottom of the rear doors, on rear corner of the spats, one the size of a 20p coin behind the roof hatch, on the left hand front wheel arch. There are also some scratches etc. around the car as one would expect from a 50 years old car. The worst bit is a dent in the roof, where some jealous person through a brick at it. The paint overall is very good and professional quality, so I have had a quote for £350 from a local garage to repair the dent and the small bits around the car (take this into consideration when you bid!). Underside is as solid as only a California car can be. No welding and no need for any! All chrome was replaced when the car was restored and is in nice condition. All woodwork was also professionally restored, and is in "as new" condition. Seats are original, and they have the correct patina and look for the age. Door cards are the original, and they are a little faded. As far as I can tell the seats and door cards are the only parts that restored/replaced. Carpets were replaces, but they have also faded in places. Engine and Gearbox has only done 3500 miles since full rebuild, so start on the button and drives like a dream. I have had both a manual and this 3.8 and the automatic is by far the best drive. The Moss box that was fitted to these is HORRIBLE, when the Automatic is smooth and fit the engine and the car. The car comes with 2 sets of wheels. The original chrome set and a much better set of painted ones (grey metallic). The original Chrome set needs to be restored, but the painted set is very presentable. The car has new headlamps and new tail lamps. This is not a perfect car, but it will not take much work or money to get it back up there with the best! This car is solid as a rock! We are moving, so we have lost storage and we no longer have space or time for this car. If you want to view the car or ask any more questions contact me on 0789966797PS! Pictures taken today (17.05.2012) Winning bidder to make contact within 24 hours of the end of the Auction! SHOW CONDITION
This is my 1961 Jaguar fitted with the 3.8 engine and manual gearbox with overdrive, the numbers of which match the plate fitted to the car. This flagship...>
model had been restored to concours standard in the early 1990`s by the previous owner the B.P Oil Companies Cheif Executive with no expense spared. It has and still is on many web sites such as `classicandperformance` and `Octane` useing this cars images and listing the specification of these cars. It has been on many photo shoots and always pictured by the public on it`s outings. When parked in Mayfair (London home) it has letters put under the wipers asking to ring when for sale! So here it is for all to buy. In the past few years it has been in the South of France (Holiday home and garaged) and has returned to Bristol my registered address for a full service and new m.o.t. The major service included a new engine gasket set,new battery, front number plate, gearbox select bushes and thrust bearing ready for the next seasons motoring (don`t ask about the cost!). This car is still in `Show condition` with the chrome wire wheels still as new (5) and the tyres perfect for the modern travel speeds. The paintwork still shines like glass and you will see my reflection in the pictures taken today 11th May. The interior had the finest leather fitted in the rebuild in the 1990`s and is still soft without and tears or rips as is the original headlining testament to the quality of this car. The carpets are new and covered over by overmats (not shown) and the woodwork is very nice. The history file is vast together with old m.o.t certificates and the operating, maintainace handbook. The car has a stainless steel exhaust together with uprated Cooper Craft brakes on the front (to stop the car at Motorway speeds) it also has an alternator fitted so it can be driven safely at night. The car has a manual choke switch fitted under the drivers panel next to the bonnet catch to ensure it starts first time. The car drives nice and smooth and will be driven back to France if unsold. There is so much I could write about this car so please feel free to ring with any questions, also allow extra time when you go out in it to answer questions from the public while they take pictures and remenis about the one they had back in the day! I will start the auction at £18995 without reserve this being about half the cost it would be at a Classic Car Dealer. I can arrange delivery to anywhere in Europe but please ring for a cost price. Any inspection is welcome and I can arrange for you to be collected from Bristol International Airport or Train Station, Bristol or Bath Spa without charge. My phone numbers are as follows; 01179372558 or mobile 07917304801, thanks for looking, James. Please see terms and conditions below. X

THE 3.8 MODEL WAS ALSO FITTED AS STD WITH A LIMITED SLIP DIFFERENTIAL.. IT WAS VERY SUCESSFULL IN SALOON CAR RACING , BEING DRIVEN BY NAMES LIKE SIR GAWAINE BAILEY AND ONLY LOSING ITS DOMINANCE WHEN THE FORD GALAXY APPEARED. THIS VERY ORIGINAL , FULL MATCHING NO.s 1964 MK 2 3.8 MANUAL O/DRIVE HAS AN INTERESTING HISTORY. IT WAS SUPPLIED NEW TO A GARAGE ( F. SMAILS MOTORS LTD, ANYONE REMEMBER THEM ? ) OF CHERTSEY , SURREY IN NOVEMBER 1964 , IN THE GREAT COLOUR COMBINATION OF BLACK WITH RED LEATHER AND IS BELIEVED TO HAVE BEEN LAST ON THE ROAD IN 1977. SMAILES MOTORS HAD IT UNTIL NOV 1965, WHEN IT APEARS TO HAVE BEEN SOLD TO A DEALER IN DARTFORD, KENT, WHO AFTER 3 WEEKS SOLD IT TO A LOCAL CO. IN BEXLEYHEATH, KENT . THE NEXT OWNER, A LONDON BASED ITALIAN GENTLEMAN TOOK HER TO ITALY SEVERAL TIMES AND HAS VERY FOND MEMORIES OF SOME GREAT DRIVES IN THE MOUNTAINS ABOVE TURIN. BY THE EARLY 1970s, SHE WAS IN LEIGH ON SEA, ESSEX. BLACK WAS A SCARCE COLOUR IN THE 60s, BUT LOOKS SUPERB NOW, PARTICULARLY WITH RED LEATHER. THIS MK2 IS FITTED WITH CHROME WIRES , THE SCARCE RECLINING SEAT OPTION, COOMBS STYLE REAR SPATS AND ALSO AN E-TYPE STEERING WHEEL. THE REAR SHOCKS APPEAR TO BE KONIS, SO SOMEONE WAS AN ENTHUSIAST DRIVER. THE ORIGINAL TOOL BOX IS PRESENT AND THE SPARE CHROME WIRE WHEEL. IT WAS TAKEN OFF THE ROAD FOR A NEW CLUTCH TO BE FITTED. THE ENGINE WAS REMOVED AND THERE SHE SAT, DRY STORED . THE ENGINE IS FREE AND IS NOT SEIZED. THIS CAR HAS NOT BEEN GOT AT OR BODGED AND THE PAINTWORK APEARS TO BE ORIGINAL. REMARKABLY IT STILL HAS THE ORIGINAL GREEN LOG BOOK ALONG WITH AN OLDER V-5 . THE ORIGINAL ENGINE AND CYL HEAD ( BLUE TOP OF COURSE ) AND THE ORIGINAL O/D GEARBOX. FOR A NEAR 50 YEAR OLD JAGUAR, THE BODY SHELL IS STILL REMARKABLY SOUND, ( INC THE FLOORS AND UNDER THE REAR SEAT PAN ) THE HEADLAMP SECTION OF THE FRONT WINGS, AND ALSO THE ORIGINAL INNER AND OUTER SILLS, BUT NEEDS WORK TO THE LOWER FRONT WINGS, ( THIS REPAIR SECTION IS ONLY £150 PER SIDE ) THE REAR VALANCE, 3 OF THE DOORS ETC ETC. (June 2007) Jaguar Mark 2 Manufacturer Jaguar Cars Also called Jaguar 240 & Jaguar 340 (from 1967) Production 1959–1967 83,976 produced (Mark 2) 1967–1969 7,234 produced (240 & 340) Predecessor Jaguar Mark 1 Successor Jaguar XJ6 Class Sports saloon Body style(s) Saloon Engine(s) 2483 cc XK I6 3442 cc XK I6 3781 cc XK I6 (until 1966) Wheelbase 107 in (2718 mm) Length 180 in (4572 mm)[1] Width 67 in (1702 mm) Height 58 in (1473 mm) Kerb weight 3,174 lb (1,440 kg) 2.4 manual without overdrive Related Daimler 250 Jaguar S-Type Jaguar 420 The Jaguar Mark 2 is a medium sized saloon car built from 1959 to 1967 by the Jaguar company in Coventry, England, as successors to the Jaguar 2.4 and 3.4 models, manufactured between 1957 and 1959. These retrospectively became known as the Jaguar Mark 1 following the release of the Mark 2 in 1959. (Eric Dymock, The Jaguar File, 3rd edition, 2004, Dove Publishing.) Contents 1 History 2 Production 3 Performance 4 Motorsport 5 Influence on modern Jaguars 6 Portrayal in media 7 Notes 8 References 9 External links [edit] History Adhering to Sir William Lyons' maxim of "grace, pace and space", the Mark 2 was a beautiful, fast and capable saloon. It came with a 120 bhp 2.4 L, 210 bhp 3.4 L or 220 bhp 3.8 L Jaguar XK6 engine.[2] The 3.8 is similar to the unit used in the 3.8 E-Type (XKE), having the same block, crank, connecting rods and pistons but different inlet manifold and carburetion (two SUs versus three on the E-Type in Europe) and therefore 30 bhp less. The head of the six cylinder engine in the Mark 2 had curved ports compared to the straight ports of the E-Type configuration. For markets other than the US the 3.4 was fitted with twin SU carburettors and the 2.4 with twin Solexes, but three Solexes were used in US spec 3.4s and 3.8s in order to meet SMOG emissions legislation. This reduced power output over the equivalent SU carburetted examples. The Daimler 2.5 litre engine was fitted to the Daimler 250 derivative of the Mark 2 (In European markets known as the Daimler 2.5-V8 then Daimler V8-250), having first been used in the Daimler SP250 sports car (the SP250 was originally known as the Daimler Dart but "Dart" was a trademark of Dodge and had to be dropped by Daimler under threat of legal action.) The aluminium alloy Daimler engine was lighter than the cast iron block Jaguar sixes, therefore reducing the mass over the front wheels and hence reducing understeer compared to the XK-powered versions under hard cornering. These models were recognisable by the characteristic Daimler wavy fluting incorporated in the chrome grille instead of the Jaguar badge and figurine. The Mark 2 was discontinued in September 1967 and replaced by the 240 and 340, so named to distinguish them from the old 2.4 and 3.4 which, as noted above, became known as the Mark 1 following the introduction of the Mark 2 in 1959. The Jaguar 240 and 340 were interim models to fill the gap until the introduction of the XJ6 in September 1968. The 340 was discontinued immediately but the 240 continued as a budget priced model until April 1969; its price of £1364 was only £20 more than the first 2.4 in 1956. (Eric Dymock, The Jaguar File, 3rd edition, 2004, Dove Publishing.) The economies of the new 240 and 340 models came at a cost - the leather upholstery was replaced by 'Ambla' leather-like material and slimmer, more economical front and rear bumpers were introduced. Other changes included the replacement of the front fog lamps with circular vents and optional fog lamps for the UK market. The sales price was reduced to compete with the Rover 2000 TC.[3] The 240's performance was improved over the old 2.4 model by upgrading the 2.4's cylinder head and twin Solex carburettors to the straight port 'E-Type' head and twin SU carburettors. For the first time the 2.4 litre model could exceed 100 mph (Eric Dymock, The Jaguar File, 3rd edition, 2004, Dove Publishing.) [4] resulting in a slight sales resurgence. [edit] Production Mark 2, 1959 to 1967 83,976 Mark 2s were built, split as follows:[2] 2.4 - 25,173 3.4 - 28,666 3.8 - 30,141 240 and 340 series, 1967 to 1969 total production 7,246 as follows:[2] 240 - 4,446 340 - 2,788 380 - 12 (not a standard production option) Jaguar replaced the 240 and 340 with the XJ6 in September 1968. [edit] Performance A 3.4 litre car with automatic transmission tested by The Motor magazine in 1961 had a top speed of 119.9 mph (193.0 km/h) and could accelerate from 0-60 mph (97 km/h) in 11.9 seconds. A touring fuel consumption of 19.0 miles per imperial gallon (14.9 L/100 km; 15.8 mpg-US) was recorded. The test car cost £1951 including taxes of £614.[1] A 3.8 litre car with the 220 bhp engine was capable of accelerating from 0-60 mph (97 km/h) in 8.5 seconds and could reach a top speed of 125 mph (201 km/h).[5][6][7] [edit] Motorsport The Mark 2 was raced successfully in the European Touring Car Championship. [edit] Influence on modern Jaguars The Mark 2's body lines, derived from the Mark 1, and overall layout proved sufficiently popular over time to provide an inspiration for both the Jaguar S-Type introduced in 1999 and the smaller X-Type debuted in 2001. [edit] Portrayal in media Jaguar Mark 2 The Mark 2 gained a reputation as a capable car among criminals and law enforcement alike; the 3.8 Litre model being particularly fast with its 220 bhp (164 kW) engine driving the car from 0-60 mph (97 km/h) in 8.5 seconds and to a top speed of 125 mph (201 km/h) with enough room for five adults.[5][6][7] Popular as getaway cars, they were also employed by the Police to patrol British motorways. The Mark 2 is also well known as the car driven by fictional TV detective Inspector Morse played by John Thaw, although Morse's car was the least desirable version (with its 2.4 L engine, steel wheels and everflex roof). It was often pushed into scenes with engine noises dubbed onto the soundtrack in post-production. In November 2005, the car used in the television series sold for more than GBP 100,000 following a total ground-up rebuild (prior to this, in its recommissioned state in 2002 after coming out of storage, it had made GBP 53,000 at auction - some GBP 45,000 more than an equivalent without the history).[8] In the original novels by Colin Dexter, Morse had driven a Lancia but Thaw insisted on his character driving a British car in the television series. John Thaw stated in one interview that the Jaguar was "an absolute beggar to drive ". [edit] Notes ^ a b "The Jaguar 3.4 litre Mark 2". The Motor. 16 August 1961.  ^ a b c Robson, Graham (2006). Interest was perhaps at its most dizzying in the late 1980s and early 1990s, when investors poured huge sums into the restoration and modification of tired old Mk2s, transforming them into gleaming pieces of automotive art, stashing them away in de-humidified storage like pieces of jewellery, hoping for their value to spiral yet higher. Fortunately, for the enthusiastic Mk2 owner-driver anyway, prices have slumped somewhat since those heady days. Jaguar's Mk2 model is now back in the hands of genuine enthusiasts, often purchasing restored cars for a fraction of the money spent on them a few years ago. Top condition examples in the most desirable specs are still worth top money, but the departure of the investor has enabled those with less epic personal means to experience the classiest saloon car from Brown's Lane, namely the Mk2, and its derivatives. Jaguarmk2.co.uk has been put together to celebrate this charismatic old Jaguar, and hopefully will be of interest to anyone who also approves of the Mk2 range of automobiles. There is a gallery of Mk2 pictures, a large free noticeboard for your parts 'wants' or surplus items, and a free PC screensaver featuring my favourite 10 MkII photos. Online auctions get a mention too, as they can be a great way of finding parts and information on your favourite classic - worth a look if you've not tried eBay yet. Finally there are a number of links to other sites that complement this one. Background to the Mk2 The lineage of the Mark 2 can be directly traced back to its predecessor, namely the 2.4 saloon, or Mk1 as it would be retrospectively known in later years. This sporting saloon, designed to fill the gap in Jaguar's range between the XK sports and volumous MkVII, entered the market in 1956. Power came from the legendary XK straight six, twin cam, engine in 2483cc form. The 2.4 was notable as being a complete break away from the previous designs of (Sir) William Lyons and co., and was their first foray into the modern world of monocoque (ie chassis-less) construction. Traditional Jaguar buyers would not feel alienated by the new offering from Coventry however, as the interior was up to their usual standards, with leather and walnut being the order of the day. With 112bhp available to the press-on motorist, the 2.4 was not overly burdened with pace, so Jaguar's response was to come in the shape of a 3.4 litre version, which was launched in 1957 to supplement its smaller brother in their mid-size saloon range. As a result, 120mph was a genuinely achievable pace, necessitating the introduction of disc brakes a year later to keep speeds in check. Also see: > Mk2s & spares finishing shortly on eBay auctions ... > Mk 2 Parts noticeboard > Photographs > Screensaver > Mark 2 Links > Privacy policy & Disclaimers Production of the Mark 1 continued into 1960, with 27,000+ examples having rolled off the production lines (this despite the disastrous factory fire of February 1957). Rather than introduce a completely brand new car, Jaguar successfully re-designed the car from stem to stern, and the Mk2 was born, debuting in 1959. By now the company had learnt a great deal about chassis-less construction methods with the Mk1, and this was put to good use in designing the Mk2 bodyshell. Gone were the chunky windscreen pillars of the early car, to be replaced by slimmer offerings giving a much more airy cabin, that both improved the styling and freshened up the design for the new decade. Other improvements included a wider track for the rear axle (Mk1s could be skittish under extremis), and disc brakes were now standard-fit, courtesy of Dunlop and years of development work both on and off the track. The 2.4 and 3.4 models continued as before, and were now joined with what is now considered to be the jewel of the crown, namely the 3.8. Mk2s were popular with high-speed drivers who frequented either side of the legal divide - beloved of bank robbers and underworld hoods due to its useful pace and agility, the police could only follow suit in stripped 3.8s, to give themselves half a chance in keeping up with the bad lads. While the 3.8 was the obvious choice for the 1960s speed freak, the cooking 2.4 could still muster 95mph or so, and was usually enough for most drivers. The 3.4 wasn't far behind the 3.8 in terms of pace, and if anything had a slightly sweeter revving engine, and is often the choice of the discerning buyer today. The three versions of XK powered Mk2 continued in the Jaguar catalogue until 1968, when the sensational XJ6 hit the forecourts, designed to replace not just the Mk2, but also the 420 and epic Mk10/420G saloons. The 2.4, downgraded somewhat thanks to cheaper Ambla interior trim and slim bumpers, was re-badged as the 240, and soldiered on in the shadow of the XJ6 til 1969, the 3.4 engined 340 departing in '68. If the Jaguar badge was a tad flash for you in the 60s, there was the option of the Daimler V8 250, a car using the bodyshell of the Mk2 but fitted with the cracking little 2.5 all-alloy V8 powerplant. Also available as an automatic or (rare) manual, it too disappeared from production with the 240 MkII in 1969. Throughout the 1970s the Mk2's light dimmed, and became just another old banger to drive into the ground, by now seriously outmoded by the latest Jaguar offerings such as the XJ6 and XJ12, and the rakish (if slightly oddly shaped) XJS of 1975. The Mk2 was definitely old news. Interest in the Mk2 began to pick up in the 1980s as enthusiasts began to recognise the beauty in the design of the Mk2, and its glamorous associations with contemporary E-Types and XKs. In the UK the Mark Two would receive a great deal of TV publicity thanks to the Inspector Morse series, further raising its profile in the eyes of the enthusiast and general public alike. ----- || Loading Advert HomeNew CarsUsed CarsCar LeasingVan LeasingCar ReviewsSell Your CarCar LoansCar InsuranceCar Parts Used Jaguar Mark II - Second Hand Jaguar Mark II Cars Log In / RegisterUsed Car Search Price From: Price To: Loading Advert Loading Advert Used Jaguar Mark II Vehicle Search Sort Order: Your search returned no results, please refine your search options and try again. The familiar curves of its elegant coachwork suggest grace, pace, space and more besides. The Mk 2 replaced the Mark 1 in 1959 and, although the two models were similar in many respects, the new car offered a wealth of improvements over its predecessor. At first glance, the most obvious visual differences are the chrome window surrounds of the Mk2, replacing the Mk 1's thicker door pillars, and the new model's larger windows. Inside, the new saloon had a reworked interior that remained characteristically Jaguar but still oozed modernity. Hence the major instruments - the speedometer and rev counter - were no longer over the central console but now located directly in front of the driver. Technically, too, the Mk2 was much improved. Front and rear discs gave the Mk2 unusually powerful brakes for a car of that era - and, as a result, Jaguar fitted a small warning badge on the rear bumper announcing 'disc brakes'. Meanwhile, a wider rear track and modifications to the suspension led to better handling and addressed the excessive body roll of the Mk1. A small restoration industry has grown up around the Mk2 and it is acceptable to apply certain mods to improve performance and ease of driving. Purists, however, cast a disapproving glance at the use of modern, five-speed, all-synchromesh gearboxes. Stay informed! ClassicInside Newsletter...
